TY - RPRT TI - The use of endothelial cell count in the preoperative evaluation of cataract surgery AU - Castanares-Zapatero Diego AU - Thiry Nancy AU - de Meester Christophe AU - Roberfroid Dominique AB - KCE Reports 390C (2024) In Belgium, endothelial cell counting (ECC) is a very common test prior to cataract surgery. Its use and associated costs have been rising in recent years. KCE analysed the situation in Belgium and abroad, and assessed the clinical benefit and cost-effectiveness of ECC. It concludes that the Belgian approach differs markedly from that in neighbouring countries, and does not appear to be supported either by the scientific literature or by international recommendations.
