The Belgian Health Care Knowledge Centre (KCE) and ZonMw, the Dutch organisation for health research and care innovation, are continuing their collaboration, and are opening the third BeNeFIT call to the research community to submit proposals for clinical trials.
Belgium and the Netherlands entered into an agreement at the end of 2017 to jointly invest in comparative, practice-oriented clinical studies. The aim of BeNeFIT (Belgium-Netherlands Funding of International Trials) is for Belgian and Dutch research teams to jointly conduct non-commercial, practice-oriented research that is relevant for patients, healthcare providers and policy makers in both countries.
By working together, clinical trials can be carried out faster and more efficiently and researchers and the financing government organizations can strengthen each other and learn from each other. Two previous calls were already launched: BeNeFIT-1 in 2018 (resulting in 5 studies funded, see funded studies) and BeNeFIT-2 in 2021 (resulting in 4 studied being funded, to be announced soon). The budget of the BeNeFIT-3 call is 9€ Million.
The BeNeFIT-3 call is open for submission, deadline 7th February 2023 14h
Applications will need to be submitted via the ZonMw portal. Please see the call webpage for more information on which applications are in scope, and how to submit. The deadline for submission is 7th February 2023 at 14h.
The funders:
In the Netherlands, the government therefore funds clinical studies through the ZonMw programmes 'Rational Pharmacotherapy' and 'Efficiency Studies'. In Belgium, KCE Trials funds since 2016 large pragmatic comparative effectiveness trials.
