KCE Trials focuses on non-commercial comparative clinical trials that can provide a large "return on investment". Comparative clinical trials compare the risks and benefits of different treatments, which are already in use, but which have never been directly compared (e.g. which of two treatments works best in real life?). In addition, repurposing trials using off-patent drugs are eligible for funding under certain conditions.
All types of healthcare interventions, in all areas of healthcare, are eligible for our calls. KCE Trials is therefore not limited to medicines or medical devices; a wide range of other interventions, such as psychotherapy, physiotherapy, diets, lifestyle interventions, diagnostic tests, surgery or types of care, can also be addressed. An absolute condition is that the results of the trial have an immediate impact on the care of patients or on the efficient use of the available healthcare resources.
You will find more information about our different calls and how proposals are selected on the dedicated webpages.
KCE Trials does not fund clinical research in the early stages or trials to develop new drug or medical devices. For this, it is best to contact other institutions, such as the Fonds voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek, the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique and Innoviris (for more information, see https://kce.fgov.be/en/public-funding). Implementation research does not fall within the scope of KCE Trials.
