Ongoing study - The aim of the PRECISe trial was to assess whether higher enteral protein provision would improve health-related quality of life and functional outcomes in critically ill patients who were mechanically ventilated compared with standard enteral protein provision. The conclusion of this RCT was that, compared with standard enteral protein provision, high enteral protein provision resulted in worse health-related quality of life and did not improve functional outcomes in critically ill patients over the 180 days following ICU admission. In this subsequent health technology assessment, the clinical results will be used to perform an economic evaluation of standard vs high enteral protein provision in critically ill patients during intensive care unit (ICU) admission to support further implementation of the most efficient alternative.
