Progress in funded studies
We are happy to announce the following important milestones have been reached in the trials listed below:
| PRIORI Contract signed |
|
The PRIORI study will recruit pregnant patients with a history of preterm birth in their first trimester of pregnancy to start with synbiotics or placebo. The study will investigate the effect of synbiotics on the vaginal flora and on the pregnancy duration. The chief investigator is Dr Van Holsbeke from ZOL. 402 participants will be recruited from 12 hospitals. |
| BONANZA Contract signed |
The BONANZA trial is testing whether a management strategy guided by early brain tissue oxygen monitoring in patients with severe traumatic brain injury improves long term neurological and functional outcomes. This is an international study, coordinated in Belgium by Pr Dr. Taccone from Erasme Hospital. 220 patients will be included in 11 sites in Belgium. |
|
| SOPRANO CTIS approved |
The SOPRANO trial compares two strategies to administer biological treatments to prevent postoperative endoscopic disease recurrence in Crohn's disease. The chief investigator is Prof. Dr. Ferrante from UZ Leuven. 352 participants will be included in this study across 24 sites. |
|
| Best Cornea FPI |
The Best Cornea trial compares the transplantation of 2 different types of cornea graft, both commonly used, to determine which is the best corneal transplant technique. The DSAEK graft (the standard of care) and the extremely thin DMEK graft (the most recent development). The chief investigator is Prof. Dr. Sorcha Ní Dhubhghaill (UZA). |
|
| DAWN antivirals Study stopped |
The DAWN antivirals trial, testing the efficacy of camostat and molnupiravir for COVID-19 infections presenting to ambulatory care, has been stopped in July 2022 due to poor recruitment. 44 patients have been recruited, during one year, of the 474 foreseen. All sites will be closed. A process evaluation to identify lessons learnt from this study with an innovative organisation will follow. |
The KCE Trials complete portfolio comprises 43 studies. more info>>
